75% of web traffic flows through Google's Chromium. Apple controls Safari. American companies control how billions access the web.

Building a competitive browser alternative: ~€50-70M annually, 3-4 years. @servo proves it's technically possible with a small team.

The challenge isn't technical, it's institutional: can democratic societies coordinate long-term tech projects?

Digital Sovereignty in Practice: Web Browsers as a Reality Check

Reading in Servo’s latest blog post that it’s now passing 1.4 million Web Platform Tests, I started wondering: How much investment would it build it into a competitive, independent brow…

friends, I am in a six hour call that’s supposed to be a high level overview of a certain embedded software runtime. The current slide contains a discussion of the garbage collection subsystem and heap management, and also a diagram of how an individual cell of static ram works with the electrons shuffling around between the 0 and 1 states. There are several hundred words in a tiny font talking about voltage and whatnot.

engineers please learn to value soft skills like “expressing your expertise clearly and concisely” a little more 😭 this is like trying to share your grandma’s cake recipe through the medium of a textbook on organic chemistry

Today in #ITSecurity gone wrong: I am in Austria as a German. I just received a notification via cell broadcast about a fire in the area. The broadcast contains a URL - but this URL is only accessible from an Austrian IP address. My LTE roaming IP isn’t allowed. So… I guess I just suffocate because I have the wrong IP address, then? 😅

Keir Starmer has failed the moral test of any society, how it treats its most vulnerable members. I hope that, tomorrow, the cohorts of labour and other MPs who oppose his attack on the vulnerable and disabled stand firm in their intention to force him to reconsider the bill in its entirety.
Low-key lost it when I noticed the main image on the Wikipedia page for business casual attire is just an edit of the nude figures from the Pioneer plaque

"One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This" by Omar El Akkad. My rating:5 out of 5 stars, Read from: 06/29/2025 - 06/29/2025. Kindle Edition, 188 pages.

Book description: “One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This” by Omar El Akkad is a nonfiction work that serves as a deeply personal and scathing critique of the Western world’s moral failures, especially regarding its treatment of marginalized groups and its response to global crises like the war in Gaza. Drawing from his experiences as an immigrant, journalist, and father, El Akkad explores the disillusionment with Western ideals, exposing the hypocrisy, double standards, and systemic injustices that persist in societies claiming to champion freedom and justice. The book is both a “heartsick breakup letter with the West” and a call for accountability, urging readers to confront the gap between professed values and lived realities, and to seek something better than what the West has offered.

This is an extremely revealing read, one which I find myself totally in agreement with. I am also going to read "American War," another book by this author.

I do wish they went for an opt-in so you could choose the ai version at something like 'ai-dot-duckduckgo'. But it's better than nothing.
