The way the UN #GlobalDigitalCompact & #SummitoftheFuture consultations have been unfolding, I've had an increasing sense this would be the case:

https://www.devex.com/news/exclusive-global-south-thwarts-u-n-future-summit-plans-105573

There's so much going on at the UN already, the GDC deep dives have felt cursory (3 mins max per speaker & time slashed from 6 to 3 hours per topic) & the #SOTF is trying to solve a wide range of issues in a very ambitious timeframe.

But if the SOTF is pushed back again, it means GDC could crash head-on into #WSIS+20 in 2025.

A new ORF issue brief, "#CyberSovereignty: In Search of Definitions, Exploring Implications", notes:

"Security vulnerabilities in cyberspace are one of the main reasons for this drastic change [towards cyber sovereignty]. These vulnerabilities continue to be exploited today. #cyberattacks and #SocialMedia-led anti-government protests prompted many states to rethink the open use of the internet."
