Honestly, this is great! The students learn to check sources, discover that ChatGPT is unreliable, *and* can't use it to generate essay question answers for them, all at the same time!

My kid is in a club at school, and they meet 4x a week for 4 hours. So all the parents chip in and stock a "snack cabinet" (granola bars, juice boxes, etc.) because teenagers are hungry goblins.
I went to fill the cabinet and noticed a padlock on it, apparently someone had been "stealing."
I admit, this triggered me.
I spoke to the coach and told him that perhaps he should talk to the kids and find out if one of them is food insecure instead of locking up some two dollar box of granola bars.
The look on his face, I could tell it kinda clicked, he didn't even think of that, just assumed it was some punk kid breaking rules.
People who grow up with wealth don't even realize that it changes the way they think. Luckily, he's a cool guy, and he was horrified that one of 'his kids' might be hungry at home. Sometimes it just takes one comment to open up someone's eyes to their privilege.

As I tell my own children: If you see someone stealing food, no you didn't.

@KimCrayton1 We white ppl take for granted a feeling of 'invisibility' in majority spaces & that's a privilege born of white supremacy. Walking into a non-white space carries with it presence & we need to see that about ourselves, take responsibility for it. It's not for anyone else to 'see' us in a way that makes us comfortable. Especially not if we don't grant others the same welcome. Non-white ppl in US never enjoy feeling 'invisible'. We need to acknowledge the daily labor that entails.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Garden

- DON'T PANIC

- At all times carry a trowel.

- Weather prediction is frequently inaccurate.

- "Here, for whatever reason, is the garden. And here it stays. With me in it."

- "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so."

- "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"

"why do you support your tax dollars going to subsidized daycare if you don't have kids" because if other people can't afford to have kids the only staff at my nursing home when I'm old will be a pill organizer scotch-taped to a roomba

Those who follow me on The Bad Place have heard me repeat this a thousand times, but once more won't hurt.

Election security is incredibly complex, full of seemingly impossible tradeoffs. But disinformation about supposed "rigged" elections is perhaps the most serious threat to election integrity today.

The best defense is to learn how elections actualy work! Becoming a poll worker is a great way to do that

‘NO’: Grad Students Analyze, Hack, and Remove Under-Desk Surveillance Devices Designed to Track Them

In October, the university quietly introduced heat sensors under desk without notifying students or seeking their consent. Students removed the devices, hacked them, and were able to force the university to stop its surveillance.
