@chriscoyier I recommend giving carbon steel and stainless steel a try. Carbon steel will be lighter than cast iron with many of the same benefits. Stainless has a bit of a learning curve but it is more versatile in that it can handle reactive ingredients.

@RebeccaSlatkin I go to a workwear store and buy mitts. They are just a leather shell. They come with wool liners that are inserted inside. It’s important that the mitts fit big on your hands. A larger air pocket helps keep your hands warm. Good mitts made for snowmobiling could also be an option.

@ttscoff I think you are right. When I was a kid, we bought a box that had catnip in it. It was dried. It was an outer box with about 2 inches strips of corrugated cardboard set on end and glued together put inside the containing box. The cat could smell the catnip through the corrugations but couldn’t get at it so he would try and scratch his way through to it. Sometimes he would just lay on it and zone out.
