Die Grenze zwischen den Kantonen Bern und Wallis führt mitten über den Alpenkamm. Der Gipfel des Wildhorn überragt mit seinen 3250m die umgebenden Gletscher. Das Wildhorn befindet sich ein einer eher abgelegen und ruhigen Gegend. Diese Umgebung ist wohl einer der Gründe, weshalb das Wildhorn inzwischen zu einem meiner Lieblingsberge geworden ist. Während einer über 10 stündigen Tour stand ich 2022 auf dem Gipfel und konnte bei schönstem Wetter die wunderbare Aussicht geniessen.

The border between the cantons of Bern and Valais runs right across the Alpine ridge. With an altitude of 3250 metres, the summit of the Wildhorn towers above the surrounding glaciers. The Wildhorn is located in a rather remote and quiet area. This environment is probably one of the reasons why the Wildhorn has become one of my favourite mountains. During a tour lasting over 10 hours, I stood on the summit in 2022 and was able to enjoy the wonderful view on a beautiful day.

In der Schweiz gibt es auf fast jedem Berggipfel ein Kreuz oder etwas ähnliches. Gestern wanderte ich auf das Hinterhorn (1422m) auf welchem der gezeigte Steinmann steht. Der alpine Wanderweg dorthin führt durch eine 800m hohe Felswand. Als Schwierigkeitsgrad wird T4 angegeben. Ein Bild des Aufstiegs habe ich als Kommentar hinzugefügt.

In Switzerland, there is a cross or something similar on almost every mountain peak. Yesterday I hiked up to the Hinterhorn (1422m) where the cairn shown is located. The alpine hiking trail there leads through an 800m high rock face. The level of difficulty is T4. I have added a picture of the ascent as a comment.

In den 1960 führte eine Transportseilbahn von einem Steinbruch zum nächsten Bahnhof. Die Bergstation existiert noch heute und liegt inzwischen mitten im Wald.

In the 1960s, a transport cableway ran from one quarry to the next railway station. The station on top still exists today and is now in the middle of the forest.

World Day for Glaciers

In August 2023, I set off on a three-day tour from the Jungfraujoch to the Grimsel Pass. Most of the tour led over various glaciers. Sleeping was in two huts. One wrong step caused me to slip into a crevasse on the very first day. Fortunately, apart from a sore shoulder, nothing happened. The next morning, the pain was too severe to continue the tour, so I was picked up from the hut by helicopter and taken to hospital for a check-up. I met my colleagues the next day on the Grimsel Pass. Despite everything, it was an incredible experience to be on these mighty glaciers. I can recommend this to everyone and hope that it will be possible for a long time to come.

Zum Welttag der Gletscher

Im August 2023 startete ich zu einer dreitägigen Tour vom Jungfraujoch zum Grimselpass. Der grösste Teil der Tour führte über verschiedene Gletscher. Übernachtet wurde in zwei Hütten. Ein falscher Schritt liess mich bereits am ersten Tag in eine Gletscherspalte abrutschen. Ausser einer schmerzenden Schulter ist zum Glück nichts passiert. Am nächsten Morgen waren die Schmerzen zu stark um die Tour fortzusetzen, weshalb ich mit einem Helikopter bei der Hütte abgeholt und zur Kontrolle ins Spital gebracht wurde. Die Kollegen nahm ich am nächsten Tag auf dem Grimselpass in Empfang. Trotz allem war es ein unglaubliches Erlebnis, sich auf diesen mächtigen Gletschern zu bewegen. Ich kann dies jedem empfehlen und hoffe, dass dies noch lange möglich sein wird.

Mit den ersten Sonnenstrahlen stieg ich heute aus dem Zug und begann den steilen Aufstieg mit dem Ziel ein paar Tiere zu beobachten. Bereits nach 1.5h traf ich die ersten Steingeissen mit dem Nachwuchs. Etwas später traf ich dann auf die mächtigen Steinböcke. Auf dem Abstieg wurde ich dann noch fast von einem Steinadler über den Haufen geflogen.

Total war ich 7h unterwegs. 1300 Höhenmeter rauf und runter verteilten sich auf 18km.

I got off the train with the first rays of sunshine today and started the steep ascent with the aim of observing some animals. After just 1.5 hours I came across the first female ibex with their young. A little later I came across the mighty ibex. On the descent I was almost run over by a golden eagle.

I was on the trail for about 7 hours. 1300 metres of ascent and descent spread over 18 km.

Wenn man einen Wanderweg in einem Gletschervorfeld anlegt, muss dieser immer wieder verschoben werden. So befinden sich Markierungen manchmal mitten im Bach.

If you create a hiking trail in a glacier foreland, it has to be moved again and again. Markings are sometimes in the middle of the river.
