Does anyone have a recommendation of a good brochure of backyard birds in Northern California?

@bradyhirsch and I want to start identifying the birds that visit our tree!

A lot of white Americans don't value bail reform, because they can't conceive of themselves being charged with a crime they didn't do, when there is literally zero evidence. That seems like a vanishingly rare occurrence.

A lot of Black Americans do support bail reform, because they know that being falsely accused of a crime is a very real possibility for them. Happens a lot.

Both groups of people are correct in their risk assessment. 🙂🙃

Pet peeve: I don’t mind when people cross post from Twitter onto Mastodon, but retweets that start with “RT [email protected]” irk me.

One of the things I've been struggling with as I get used to Mastodon is finding people to talk to. Posting into the void is way less fun than having actual discussions with active users who share my interests.

Everyone on this list is an active user whose content I enjoy!

A growing number of people are experimenting with federated alternatives to social media like Mastodon, either by joining an “instance” hosted by someone else or creating their own instance by running the free, open-source software on a server they control. Raquel Rolnik's Urban Warfare elegantly frames mortgage-backed homeownership system as a global phenomenon creating "an intimate link between individuals' biological lives and the global process of income extraction and speculation." US housing thinkpiece discourse is totally bereft of this kind of analysis; it's like every American urbanist has memory-holed 2008

Hashtags are important on Mastodon because there’s no text search. In order to find other people’s posts on a subject, you have to search for hashtags.

Still, coming from Twitter, I feel like such a nerd ending my posts with 10 tags! 😂
