Boards & Commissions

Boards and commissions advise the City Council on a wide variety of subjects by making recommendations on important policy matters. The Berkeley City Council appoints a wide variety of boards and commissions to advise them on key policy issues. The City has many commissions that discuss issues ranging from Civic Arts to Disaster and Fire Safety. View membership and vacancies on the commission roster.

Tonight's East Bay Stonewall Democrats event featured discussions with local elected leaders and government staff on how cities, school boards, and our county government are working to protect LGBTQ communities in Alameda County.

East Bay local governments are:
- Funding the Lakeshore LGBTQ District, healthcare services, housing, families, and other affirming services.
- Publicly reassuring parents of trans kids at board meetings that "we hold the line" and aren't going to roll back protections.
- Working closely with healthcare providers to respond to federal changes.
- Building all-gender restrooms.

Representation matters, both in elected office and in hiring and appointments - LGBTQ staff talked about being the go-to person to advise elected officials on decision making.

Berkeley is planning upgrades to Telegraph Ave from Dwight to the Oakland border to help buses go faster, improve safety, and provide space for deliveries and loading. Help improve mobility by foot, bike, or bus on Telegraph

Give input at June 25 meeting or use online survey by July 3 to give input on priorities and concept designs. Use an online workshop or survey to let us know how to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists who use Telegraph Avenue while improving bus speed and reliability. The City is also seeking to integrate better truck and delivery loading zones on this section of Telegraph Avenue, which stretches from Dwight Way to Woolsey Street at the Oakland border. Options include bus-only lanes and bus stop improvements, physically protected and separated bike lanes, crosswalks, curb management, and other improvements.
