In this small but interesting study chaggpt On Its Own did much better on diagnosis than doctors with no access to chatgpt AND much better than doctors who did have access.

The doctors with access simply didn't trust chatgpt results - they preferred their own diagnosis

There're two sides to AI. You can OVERTRUST it, giving it jobs it can't do/shouldn't do. But you can also UNDERTRUST it - refusing to use it when it would be useful to do so...

ChatGPT Defeated Doctors at Diagnosing Illness

A small study found ChatGPT outdid human physicians when assessing medical case histories, even when those doctors were using a chatbot.

Another one for my series of articles on the causes of the Trump victory. Note: all these essays have the ring of truth about them. IMHO they are not so much competitors as different views of the elephant.

Opinion | Democrats Could Have Won. Our Excuses Mask a Devastating Reality.

Many young voters didn’t perceive the tangible impact of their 2020 support for Joe Biden, which eroded their faith in the Democratic Party.

Another interesting take on the US election, this time from Adam Tooze. It seems the democrats did systematically better in richer/better educated segments of the population than in the poorer/less educated ones. For Tooze this is becaused of "perceived" economic problems in the poorer segments. Isn't it more parsimonious to assume the problems are real?

I think this is pretty insightful. Just one annotation. It seems most Americans perceive the main economic problem as inflation. But they have lived through much higher inflation than they have today. I submit that the real problem is FALLING REAL (=inflation adjusted) INCOME.

I wonder how many people realise that libertarian Universal Basic Income (dismantle every welfare system, make the poor buy privatised services using their UBI allowance) and socialist UBI (supplement existing welfare systems with UBI) are very very different proposals and that the libertarian one would put us in a much much worse situation than where we are today

@SrRochardBunson Personal experience, a couple of years ago I lost my best friend of 25 years to this pipeline.

A divorce & a relationship or two that ended next thing you know he was talking about the manosphere unironically, a short while later he's espousing misogynistic views, then transphobic views.

Finally went full Nazi scum, saying he hated the Jews. Not long before all this we were smoking joints & laughing at Trump.

It took a year & a half for him to transform from a loving, liberal, armchair socialist to whatever angry, bigoted thing I eventually walked away from.

I think there's a toxic masculinity to fascism pipeline but I also think there's a New Age, hippy to fascism pipeline.
