How Trump's IRS settlement could block tax audits of him, his family and their businesses

Some lawmakers and legal experts say the department has violated federal law with its addendum to the settlement.

America has become a place where the least deserving get the most, while the most in need get the shaft. We must change that.
My informal metric for the health of the morale of a company is how much shitposting and bantering folks feel like doing. When all the slack channels are quiet aside from "work speak", it's a real real bad sign.
The Democratic Party spent billions of dollars to lose a must win election, which places us on the front door of fascism, and now has failed to do the most basic analysis of what went wrong or grapple with the biggest issues impacting the 2024 election. This level of breathtaking incompetence is beyond indefensible and beyond reprehensible. What the actual fatwa.

I was thinking about this today…
- Pete Hegseth exemplified his Christian nationalist faith by killing 175 school girls.
- Amin Abdullah exemplified his Islamic faith by giving his life to save 140 school kids.

MAGAs praise Hegseth despite him killing kids, and they condemn Abdullah despite him saving kids.

If you still don’t qwhite see the difference why, at least let this be another proof that MAGA never actually cared about protecting kids.

I've written about the futility of "voting with your wallet." Billionaires love it when you try to vote that way. Billionaires are 0.00004% of the population, but their wallets are 100,000x larger than average. So when we wallet-vote, their vote counts 100,000X more than yours:

File under: AI Resistance

I'm reading – and enjoying immensely – @emilymbender and @alex's book #TheAICon.

I've been learning a lot of things and something that really stood out recently is the need to be careful about the language we use to describe these systems. Bender and Hanna helpfully explain:

"It matters what words we use when we talk about these technologies. For instance, in our writing, we don’t use the term “hallucination” to discuss the errors of LLMs, for two reasons. First, if it’s used tongue-in-cheek, it is making light of what can be symptoms of serious mental illness. Second,
“hallucination” refers to the experience of perceiving things that aren’t there. But LLMs actually don’t have perceptions, and suggesting that they do is yet more unhelpful anthropomorphization. That means we also avoid assigning thought processes to these systems, or saying that they can
“think”. Metaphors have power, they structure the frames of discourse, and they can subtly and insidiously encourage certain ways of understanding technology and the social systems it is embedded in."

Antropomorphizing AI contributes to AI hype. Thanks Emily and Alex for helping me see things this way!

Imagine being so bad at stuff that using an LLM makes you better.
