We are all stardust.

That oxygen you breath? That comes from dying massive stars, ending their light in a supernova.

The iron in your blood? Some massive stars dying, but mainly white dwarfs, the leftovers of dwarf stars like our own Sun, exploding.

The gold ring on your finger? Mostly merging neutron stars, leftovers from supernovae.

Nice thing about Mastodon: It's one of the extremely rare web pages I visit where my ad blocker doesn't need to do anything.
Never forget, a 13-year study of a dozen cities found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. As for sharrows, it’s safer to NOT have them. Via #StreetsblogUSA, read their article linked below. #bikelanes #bikes #cities #transportation #mobility #sharrows #infrastructure #urbanplanning

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says

Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

Repeat after me — car dependency is the opposite of freedom.

"Cities are meant to stop traffic. That is their point. That is why they are there. That is why traders put outposts there, merchants put shops there, hoteliers erect inns there. Rationally one wants to have traffic *stop* there, not go *through*."

This is what the main parking lot of the financial district of Amsterdam looks like.

Here, the banks and the big law firms have their headquarters.

In the Netherlands, the higher the education and income levels, the more the bike is used.

“Así se ve el parking principal del barrio financiero de Amsterdam. Aquí, los bancos y los grandes bufetes de abogados tienen sus casas matrices. En los Países Bajos, cuanto más altos los niveles de educación e ingresos, cuanto más se usa la bici.”

Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint

If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset Canada’s entire carbon footprint.
