Humanity has *never* experienced a February like this one before. And if such weather extremes are shocking to you, imagine the disruption to plants, to insects, to birds and to other animals who have no way to understand what's happening, and who can't possibly adapt fast enough.

Capitalist industry is murdering our only biosphere.

"Historic winter heat wave smashes records across U.S."

The modern winter climate history of the Central U.S. was rewritten this week, as more than 130 monthly high temperature records were set from Texas to Michigan. Veteran Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore noted that 132 cities and towns set monthly records, calling the feat "insane."

The worst thing about all this (not mentioned in the article) is that it’s part of a vicious cycle, a self-reinforcing feedback loop.

These unprecedented heat waves bake the soil and dry out vegetation, releasing carbon into the atmosphere. They also make wildfires and forest fires far more likely, which again release even more carbon into the atmosphere. That increased concentration of greenhouse gases raises global temperatures, which causes more and more of these searing heat waves… and the cycle repeats and repeats and repeats.

"Insane": Historic winter heat wave smashes records across U.S.

Climate change, the jet stream and El Niño all had a role to play in this shocking event.

Electric cars, carbon capture, planting trees; all these climate actions feel like fighting a wildfire while an arsonist is setting more fires.

Don't get me wrong - we *need* people fighting the fires (even if some of them are more effective than others).

But more urgently, someone needs to stop the arsonist.

Judges in #Trump-related cases face unprecedented wave of threats

“Judges and prosecutors are facing repeated threats of violence as they handle cases related to Trump, interviews and documents reveal. The wave of intimidation follows the ex-president’s attacks on judges as corrupt and biased – and some worry it threatens America’s long tradition of judicial independence.”

No. No we aren't.

We really aren't ok.

What Cory didn't mention is that in Canada, municipalities are at the mercy of the province because of how we are set up. Provinces can just decide what to do with you, or even make you no longer exist at any time.

In addition to these horrendous mayors, we also have had openly corrupt Premiers destroying this city. The latest is Doug Ford whose friend took it out a $100M loan to buy protected land that can't be developed on and weeks later, the province magically changed legislation to remove said protections.

Before him, the Premier wasn't bad but due to a moment of cowardice, pulled the ability to toll the highways into the city out from us, and added even more traffic to our streets.

It's not uncommon now to take 40 minutes to drive what can be walked in about 15.

We lie down and take this because the rest of the province has accepted right wing corruption as normal.

We are not ok.

Everyone on that stage except for Chris Christie and Ada Hutchinson said they’d vote for trump if he’s the nominee, even if he’s found guilty of the various felony charges. When Christie criticized Trump’s attack on the constitution, the GOP debate crowd booed him. Is there really anything more to discuss?
@webuiltthiscity @docpop This annoys me in the same way rental scooters left on the sidewalk annoys me. Your business plan relies on using the public commons for storing your inventory but you can't be bothered to keep from messing up the public commons n the process?

Tonight I spent one hour at the corner of Cesar Chavez & Guerrero St counting driverless cars.

Between 5-6pm, I counted 27 driverless cars, but only 1 appeared to have a passenger.

During rush hour in #SanFrancisco, 96% of the Waymos, Cruises, and Xoops on this busy street were empty!

edit: driverless cars can operate 24/7 in SF, but I've been informed that some are only taking passengers during certain hours (ie 9pm-5am). So the cars I saw today were probably not accepting any paid rides.
