#Writers of the Fediverse. I have created a little tool to help you exercise your creative writing muscles.

The premise is simple. You get a prompt and get 30 minutes to write a short story.

If you sign up and use it, please let me know how it could be improved. I built this as a way for my wife to have a place to practice her writing. I would love to know how to make it even better for her.

“The kinds of figures we’re talking about—that would actually save public money, remember—are rounding errors in most transportation budgets. So cities are literally wasting public money by not investing in smart bike infrastructure.”
This is still a really important conversation, between @modacitylife & I. Give it a read.

Opinion: Why more urban cycling saves everyone money | Urbanized

The resulting benefits of a ‘car-less’ household are myriad, but few are as quantifiable as the money most people sink into a depreciating asset that sits unused for 95% of the time.

@notjustbikes it costs me $70/mo for an unlimited ride pass on the (admittedly shitty because it's NA) bus system. I pay almost $200 /mo for insurance on my very basic compact sedan. Even free parking doesn't make a car budget friendly.

Merry Holidays 🙄 I just got let go from my social media/marketing job. If you know of anybody hiring for that, devrel, or podcasting, audio, video, etc. Please reach out.

@urbandata @TheConversationUS Twitter may have had its issues, but its ability to provide a voice to people who have been suppressed is something that will be missed.I hope that #blackmastodon can grow to be that voice.
@blowdart This has to be a troll....right?
@DrTCombs it was also interesting to see that only about half of the municipalities opened up space for dining outdoors. That surprised me as I have seen outdoor dining available in so many places.

@DrTCombs This response I have seen echoed many times in local groups

"There was like zero interest
in anywhere near a business having some of these things, because all of the businesses saw that they needed to have direct car access right in front of their building."

I find that an uncompelling argument, as there are only every a few spaces in front of any given business and it seems unlikely that turnover is so great that those two or three spots are really driving the majority of sales.

@BrentToderian here in the Motor City we should really transform Woodward Ave. It is absolutely gigantic and could so easily support dedicated bus lanes or light rail, bike lanes and still have room for car travel.

This is one of the country's iconic streets in the city that takes its nickname from cars, and it would be a meaningful indication of progress if it could be transformed into a place for people.
