@paul @mark Twitter seems to have thoroughly booted me from using Tweetbot just now. Signed me out and is failing to request new tokens with what looks like a 403. Hopefully not hitting all usersβ¦
Who assumed what was going to happen and planned for it all along?
I ate two plates of Thanksgiving dinner, logged on, and decided a nap would be more productive.
Whelp- Post.news has convinced me to actually learn how to navigate the fediverse.
Not to mention, those interests span the utility of any one server. Perhaps I need to better understand content discovery on Mastodon, but it strikes me as higher friction.
Too much of the discourse here is Twitter-focused. I don't participate in social networks for anything professional - I use it to satisfy curiosities, follow news, and follow sports/other hobbies. As much promise as the platform has, until it reaches a critical mass I'm skeptical it will take off.
One thing I'm still working through: what to post here vs. what to post on the other site, where I am still trying to engage. Don't want to just post the same stuff. And here especially don't want to just be talking about the fediverse (or worse, about the other site). So I'm still trying to figure out how to best be here.
With decentralization comes a different kind of risk - how do we establish trust with server admins? Need to look into what kind of data admins can collect, but for all of the concern about Twitter firing their CISO and other security/privacy staff, Mastodon feels a bit like security through obscurity.
