Too much of the discourse here is Twitter-focused. I don't participate in social networks for anything professional - I use it to satisfy curiosities, follow news, and follow sports/other hobbies. As much promise as the platform has, until it reaches a critical mass I'm skeptical it will take off.
Not to mention, those interests span the utility of any one server. Perhaps I need to better understand content discovery on Mastodon, but it strikes me as higher friction.
@robheald Well put. I share your skepticism, but will make a good faith effort for now. Post.news looks promising also.
@ridt am on the waiting list there and am eager to check it out. Integrating micro-payments from the start may help jumpstart things. Agree- will take effort to make any meaningful transition!

@robheald I think the thing to keep in mind with #Mastodon is that's not built to be like Twitter or other social media platforms. There is no algorithm to fill your feed with content and instances (servers) are maintained by their admins.

The best way to find content and people you want to connect with is through hashtags. Trying making an #introduction post using tags for things you're interested in.

Happy tooting.
