On the topic of #moderation in the #Fediverse and if it is ok to remove someone from e.g. a #Mastodon server, I was reminded about this #xkcd again: https://xkcd.com/1357/ #fediversefachtag

I just read another news article about why mastodon didn’t make it and is dying. It’s very sad to hear and probably explains why I have to keep adding more server capacity to handle all the people quitting mastodon.
Today, I am allowing unlimited reads of this message/toot by all unverified users. Go crazy.

Every public institution posting warnings or threats on Twitter is now incapable of warning anyone without a Twitter account or anyone with a Twitter account that read more than 600 posts / day.

The need for independent social media / social media owned by you, aka the Fediverse, becomes more blatantly obvious by the day.

As Elon Musk is ravaging against projects like Nitter, or other alternative frontends, which barely scrapes together the few cents needed to keep Twitter afloat monetarily after his changes - making the platform more unusable by the second - we are building the alternative the world needs with #MastodonDE. It ain’t perfect, but it’s sure as hell close to it.

Exclusive: Twitter removes suicide prevention feature, says it's under revamp

Twitter Inc removed a feature in the past few days that promoted suicide prevention hotlines and other safety resources to users looking up certain content, according to two people familiar with the matter who said it was ordered by new owner Elon Musk.

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.
