The new changes to the Twitter platform that Elon Musk announced 2.5 hours ago are the final nail in the coffin.
You can now only read 600 posts / day as a non-paying user on Twitter.

Every public institution posting warnings or threats on Twitter is now incapable of warning anyone without a Twitter account or anyone with a Twitter account that read more than 600 posts / day.

The need for independent social media / social media owned by you, aka the Fediverse, becomes more blatantly obvious by the day.

As Elon Musk is ravaging against projects like Nitter, or other alternative frontends, which barely scrapes together the few cents needed to keep Twitter afloat monetarily after his changes - making the platform more unusable by the second - we are building the alternative the world needs with #MastodonDE. It ain’t perfect, but it’s sure as hell close to it.

@Erik
We should all speak to our government representatives and get them to set up accounts on Mastodon. Toronto Police here sets a great example.
@Erik I like it. I tried hard during the Great Migration to lobby for people to come and explain that the difficulties of getting going were superficial. I think still many are put off. Perhaps this latest crisis will encourage more to come. The elite consensus seemed to be to migrate to Bluesky but they don't have the capacity and it's still invite only and even those are paused.
@Erik
There is a serious lack of Public/ Govt institutions on here.
First let's consider if that is a path 🐘 wants to follow. (Idkn) .
If not, there's a public service huge hole that 🐦 filled.

Well, not for Germany. Every federal ministry, every state parliament, every early warning system, many universities and even a lot of companies have accounts here!

Even almost all politicians from the EU parliament and German parliament have an account, at least a mirror where they reply.

@Erik
Don't all live in Germany! Some even go travelling.
Q is how to get other EU *public institutions* to move.
Am talking weather, health, wildfire, sig incidents.
Cld also consider those across the Atlantic.
@Erik Some very rich people know the cost of everything but the value of nothing.
