In another life I’m a hipster barista battling evil spy drones with my Tor-powered coffee grinder.
I work for Microsoft so I post stuff about that from time to time, but mostly I’ll be shit-posting (poop tooting?) about random things not related to my $dayjob.

@i_ball Yup, .social and .online. Here’s one example of it: https://bsd.network/@phessler/109377895295583969

If you are on mastodon.social or mastodon.online, please migrate OFF or make additional accounts elsewhere (mastodon.help has a nice instance search now). Many already have these instances silenced due to failure to moderate and it's becoming more obvious that these will eventually need to be upgraded to suspensions. Plus, you deserve a better experience!

And yes, this part of how the fediverse works is why I really should run my own instance. But right now I don't have the time, focus, or energy to get started.
There are some rumblings in the world of instance moderators/operators to the effect of this server being silenced and potentially becoming blocked by many other instances. So I created a new account over at '.world' instead, will probably migrate during next week. Just a heads-up in case you see someone who looks like my clone starting to follow you... 😅
@[email protected] Hulu and Amazon telling me I have twenty-something yet unwatched Christmas movies… I’m not sure I’m emotionally ready for that level of Hallmark in my life. 😅
I just deleted 13 years of online history… Feels…weird, and sad, but at the same time a little bit liberating. I’ll keep my account alive, just so it doesn’t get recycled by someone. But I guess that’s that. End of an era. Hello next era, may you last longer than the previous one!

An Incredible Day In Internet History

It started with the Twitter lockout. 10,000 new users per hour. A QUARTER MILLION people migrated to Mastodon in one day. The servers struggled. Remarkably, admins all over the world built up capacity in real time. New users were patient. The system held.

It's running better now. There will be more hard days ahead, but people powered social media has arrived.

@mastodonusercount The migration to Mastodon is not slowing down. Sustained at around ten thousand registrations per hour. Been like that for twenty hours now.

For comparison back in October there used to be only about 50 registrations per hour.

Coach: Today is a repeat of Open 20.2. If you did that one, you should try to match or beat your score today.
Me after warm-up: Yeah. Nope. Not feeling it. Will def go slow today.
<20min later>
Coach: How did you all do?
Me: I missed my old result by….one rep. 🤷🏼‍♂️😅

Why do I always underestimate my performance/capacity when it comes to physical activity? Maybe I should read a book about sports mental exercises or something, but so far they’ve all been so boring. 😜
