This is scary. It's (strong) SafetyNet for websites.

Every now and then I run into another Android app I can no longer run because someone decided my phone, running an official build of my choice of OS, that isn't even rooted, is "not trustable".

Now they want to start doing that for websites.

This kills open Linux on the desktop (including Asahi Linux). It kills alternative browsers. It is a backdoor to kill ad blockers.

No. Just no. Please.

Another common comment we're also seeing a lot of is "I thought the GPU drivers weren't ready". They are! You can have a fully accelerated Linux desktop experience today.

They are opt-in simply because technically software rendering still provides higher compatibility.

This is also tied to the display controller driver (which a lot of you know for brightness control support) only because installing *only* the display controller driver, without the GPU driver, will actually regress software rendering performance due to technicalities.

The next major update coming soon will significantly increase GPU performance across the board, as well as compatibility.

But even the current version already renders some games better than macOS, because it has fewer bugs for those features which are already supported.

On Dec 16, Twitter suspended our @joinmastodon account after we shared a link to the newly registered Mastodon account of @ElonJet, an account that broadcasts public flight path data of Elon Musk’s private jet, which was previously suspended from Twitter itself. At the same time, accounts of multiple journalists from major publications such as CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, as well as various independent journalists, were likewise suspended for either linking to the account itself or talking about the event.
