@radiohead 319 on the other site. Retired Chartered Engineer. Just trying to do the right thing. 'Citizen of nowhere'. Probably woke, actually thinking about it, I am, and proud!
@mmasnick thanks Mike. I haven't checked in here for a while. I found Bluesky more "for me" - I easily rebuilt 90% of my community from Xitter, and have found new interesting people too. I managed to delete all my content on Xitter so hopefully they can't use it for AI training! Keeping my X account open to stop handle poachers, and hopefully it adds an incremental cost without revenue upside for Musk too!
@chrisgeidner despite having travelled widely, I hardly understand a word of that. To me, this suggests the policy will fail outside of America!

Hello folks. I haven't been on here for a while since the last Twitter bin fire.

What nice place, a breath of fresh air!

@panduck @TomSwirly @JohanEmpa it's all about battery capacity and time to charge.

A typical ev battery has 50kWh capacity
So it would charge from zero to full in a little over 2 hours on a high speed 21kW charger, or that same charge would take 7 hours at 7kW.

In practice batteries are rarely empty and rarely need a full charge. Also their charging circuitry often limits charging rate (kW). So if I had a standard 3.6kW domestic array I could happily use it to opportunistically charge my EV

@cooraysmith it's an absolute bargain compared to their floating prison ship idea which costs £533k per annum per inmate, I mean refugee.

£1.6billion for 3 ships housing 500 refugees (the ships are designed for 200 or so, but they are doubling them up)

@BobM if that's true, then it indicates poor workplace welfare from those employers, possibly industrial injury. If they are conducting workplace assessments properly this should not be an issue.

It's only been 3 days since I did #TheWeekInTory, but that hasn't stopped them. It hasn't even slowed them down. It's an absolute blizzard of chaos.

(There's a mistake in this - I refer to Johnson's time as Home Secretary, I meant Foreign Secretary)

@RussInCheshire: I did my last #TheWeekInTory at lunchtime on Tuesday. So this is just what’s happened since then. Pick your jaw up, Mabel: there’s nothing surprising about this level of mayhem anymore. (Long thread...…

@mmasnick. when I read that, my first action was to check my Mastodon timeline, which I must admit, I have not checked for a while. Pleasantly surprised by variety and quality of content.
