For today’s #Bloomscrolling, I’m doing a bit of a before and after. Picture 1 is from when I cleared the area and had a grand vision in my mind of a diverse pollinator friendly spot along our back fence.

Picture 2 is the reality. It isn’t very diverse because critters have snatched seeds and seedlings, so it’s more of a ‘this is what survived’ thing. I uprooted a bunch of marigolds (more on that later) from my #vegetable #garden today and replanted them in this area.

Now you may ask yourself why I pulled the #marigolds from my #vegetable #garden and the primary reason is that I’m fairly certain that they were attracting aphids to my veggies. I planted them because they are supposed to repeal pests, but the more I read about companion planting, the more that I realize most of the recommendations aren’t based on any sort of hard evidence.

After this year, no more planting marigolds near my fruits & veggies. #Gardening.

At the end of May, we camped at Newport Bay with the Cub Scout pack that my boys were part of before they joined a troop.

I happened to take these pictures on the walk back from the bathroom to the campsite. I think they turned out pretty cool.

I started a #gardening blog earlier this year. I haven’t felt inspired to post anything in at least a couple months. I kind got tired of the whole ‘chasing likes’ thing and the gardening/homesteading community on Instagram is full of bigoted fascists. I’m excited. The last time I tried to grow cantaloupe, it didn’t work out well. I have a bunch of little cantaloupe friends growing right now.
