Disgraced Los Angeles City Councilmember Kevin de León physically attacked Jason Reedy, a Black tenant organizer at a tree-lighting event tonight in Lincoln Heights.

This not the first time a consituent has been attacked by de León, who has been ignoring calls for his resignation after he was recorded making racist comments during a meeting.

I hate living in a society where capitalism creates a problem so you can be sold the solution, and if you cannot afford the solution, you're destined to die.

so yes support the nyt boycott. but also i've got feelings about it and i'm going to toot below

extremely frustrating to see nyt workers ask us to support a boycott in solidarity when they've stood by and done nothing while their paper prints article after article of transphobia, pro cop, pro imperialist propaganda

like, you want solidarity now from the people you've been harming?

i know that the stronger labor is, the more editorial control they'll have, which will hopefully result in a shift in these topics and others. away from the perspective of ruling elites and toward the perspective of working class people

it'd be extremely counterproductive to stand in opposition to a labor movement. so yeah, do the boycott

but if i said my first reaction were anything other than, "fuck you" i'd be lying

"...The price has been unfathomable, because the struggle is for the most basic and most critical thing: land.

"The Zapatistas say that every struggle must be connected to land, that without land there can be no autonomy. In the city we often forget the importance of land. We live on land, but also we eat from the land. To me a clear distinction between the revolution in Egypt and in Syria is that the latter took land from the state. The equation of these two struggles is a completely different one. I think it is also why it was so easy for a majority of the world to support the Egyptian revolution, because it didn’t shake the system of power at its core, and thus allowed space for the regime to reemerge. In Syria, the regime reacted like a rabid animal when revolutionaries took territory away from it. At all cost it has fought to get it back."
