@pkufeldt @bergmeister Yes, they make a little plug for the cinch hole to keep out cold air, but a sock is free!

This is a raw, unedited 7-minute film of my overnight winter hammock trip. There’s no music, no voiceover, and no polished edits. Just the sounds of snow, waves, fire and camp life.

@richardrathe My bad, that was unclear, yes. The weather forecast low was 15F but my warmest quilts are good down to 20F. So I stacked a 40 on the outside.
@richardrathe I used top and bottom quilts from Hammock Gear. In order to stack the bottom ones properly I added 1 inch of shock cord to each end of the outer suspension to prevent the outer quilt from compressing the inner one.

@doug I spent most of my adult life in Texas and never imagined myself winter camping until I moved north and came across Shug’s Minnesota winter hammock camping videos where he showed how he stayed warm down to -34C.

You definitely have to maintain a tight seal between your hammock and the quilts, wear something to keep your head warm, use clips to keep your underquilt aligned and keep out the wind. I have not yet needed a tarp with doors, but I’ve been lucky and never had the winds shift on me at night either.

@doug I’m using two underquilts from Hammock Gear, a 20F with a 49F on a little bit of guy line as an extension to prevent it from compressing the 20F.

Hot water bottle really helps, although with down booties it is less necessary than last winter when I only had boots 😁.

First time pulling a pulk. Gonna be using this more if the snow holds out.

Hammock camping in northern Michigan at 15F/-9C. Blissfully cozy, quiet and warm.

@rcr @jnavarra I started hammock camping in the spring and bought some winter hammock gear on sale over the summer because I slept so well and wanted to continue camping when it got cold. No mosquitoes in the winter! 😉
