@douglaswelch @AccordionBruce So I've asked Pat Missin about this:
1. The word "Harmonica" was indeed used in a variety of contexts - sometimes even referring to instruments that were not free reed instruments (see: https://www.patmissin.com/ffaq/q2.html )
2. That being said, he listened to the recordings and he's quite sure they are harmonicas (and I'll trust his hearing and knowledge a lot more than I trust mine!)
Part of what confused me is most likely down to the limitations of the recording medium.
Coming home from choir this evening I noticed it was the full moon, so made a detour via a place I knew there would be some good views.
I sat there a while watching the moon and listening to the evening life, made a couple of pictures then went home.
Picture is made with my phone, which isn't great at this kind of pictures so it is what is is ! #fullmoon
More ! More traditional Irish music played on harmonica #electrofolk (or #folktronica) style ! Here is The Congress Reel, played on a Suzuki Humming Tremolo in G. Accompaniment (beats!) done in #bitwig
I'd already done an electrofolk version of this reel, which was more on the weird side. This one is more on the dancy side of things !
Let me know what you think 😄
It's finally been raining this week. We've had a really dry spring in the UK, which I really enjoyed - but by now even I missed the rain.
Having a bit of rain feels restful, especially when walking in the woods: the woods feel so much more at peace after it's rained. It feels like coming home, I don't really know how to describe it.
During my evening walk I took a break in the woods, as being there felt so nice. During the dry spell I tended to take my breaks in the fields instead.
@douglaswelch Listening to the ones tagged harmonica, I think a number of those are actually squeezeboxes rather than what we call harmonica today.
It's possible at the time people sometimes referred to all free reed instruments as harmonicas, though I can't find anything confirming this online.
I've reached out to a harmonica historian, if I get an answer I'll post it here. Also maybe @AccordionBruce will know ?
