Years ago I bought a #harmonica. I enjoyed playing Billy Joel's Piano Man on the piano and wanted to learn the iconic harmonica part to go along with it. Since these harmonicas are all tuned to a specific key, I had to buy the right one. Thankfully, Piano Man requires the very common key of C major.
A year or so ago, I was listening to another song from the Piano Man album: The Ballad of Billy the Kid. It also features a harmonica part in the intro. I wondered, what are the chances that Joel used the same harmonica in that song? I grabbed my old C major harmonica and was happy to find I could indeed play along.
Yesterday I was listening to Prelude/Angry Young Man, released three years after Piano Man. I heard another harmonica line. So I wondered, would Joel have bought a different harmonica by that time?
He hadn't.
