Figured I'd document this...
Was doing some digging in the Deus Ex game files to see if I can get the UI textures. This is a for a future project where I want to create a CSS theme using them.

The process was a bit annoying to find them so here's a gist that includes steps on how to export the .tga files and then convert them to .png files using the script provided!

Bonus: Some pictures of the Deus Ex dev team I found in the converted directory!

Build software better, together

GitHub is where people build software. More than 150 million people use GitHub to discover, fork, and contribute to over 420 million projects.

was chatting with a friend about some of the challenges with teaching yourself programming topics:

* you have random gaps that you don’t even know about
* it's hard to assess your level, you might know a lot about one subtopic and be a total beginner elsewhere
* it's very difficult to guess what other fellow autodidacts know about the subject

I've had to learn how to suss out what shared knowledge base I have with another programmer on any given topic quickly so that we can talk

(1/?)

grabbed a breakfast sandwich out of the case at the hippie food co-op today. it was on a cinnamon raisin bagel.

i do not even like the joker but now i am the joker.

As someone in software for a while that has been the most surprising thing that Open Source did: It massively increased complexity even for small projects because "that's how Google/Amazon/etc do it".

Yes Amazon does Microservice architectures. They also have a few people for every service that knows the ins and outs. You have a team of 5 that now not only has to understand the problem but juggle dependency chains from here around the moon and back so your React App that should have been plain HTML doesn't fail while showing a basically static page.

You won't grow to Google/Amazon scale. It's fine. Just build a simple solution you can maintain.

Working on React/K8s or whatever is mostly you training yourself on your own dime and time to be a potential hire for some Big tech company that will fire you to juice the numbers at he end of the next quarter.

Whenever I went outside I used to keep my head down and get through the experience as fast as possible. Today, I did my best to keep my head up and really take in everything happening around me.

A grandmother hugging her grandchild.
A violinist sharing his art with the world.
A toddler kicking a soccer ball with his dad, laughing gleefully.
The smell of coffee, one of my favorites.
The evening sky.
Dogs!

It was a pleasant reminder that life is beautiful.

Why am I just learning about the Earl Sweatshirt + The Alchemist album?!? I'm so happy now
I love Elle Cordova and her clever, funny videos. This one is for all my writer and editor friends.
Oh! The UI for hashtags activity was a bit misleading saying no one was talking about fediquette. I guess it’s only recently posts that get added to the preview.
Welp, I answered my own question and will browse this hashtag to learn more. Feel free to reply still to boost my learning potential!

Hi there, I’m using my tiny megaphone to ask.
What are some rules for #etiquette on mastodon? Or maybe the term should be #fediquette
I’ve had to pick up on some through my browsing but might struggle with finding up ALL of them myself.
Use the replies section as a way of spreading mastodon etiquette that’s already accepted, and things you’d like to see become accepted!

Example: All images should have alt text.

Hello 🌏 ! This is #phosh's mastodon account. It'll have phosh's release announcements and posts/boosts of related projects. Looking forward to an interesting and bright Linux mobile future 📱 .
