6 small things that make you a guest hosts love having over
So, question for y'all: are we back to shaking hands? I was so relieved when, early in the pandemic, we stopped doing that, and I had hoped it would not come back, but then yesterday FOUR people wanted to shake my hand on meeting me, and the other week, a doctor I saw also wanted to shake my hand. Is the handshake back? And more importantly, how do you (politely) get out of it when a hand is offered?
Would it be weird if I started having conversations and discussions between my two accounts? I mean, if I started to responding to some of my kolektiva posts from my beige.party account, and vice versa? I could have whole conversations with myself! 🤣
Could be funny, could be lame. I guess it would depend on how I did it. But it's almost tempting.
The one thing I would never do is boost or like a post on one account from the other. Frankly, I don't boost or favorite my own posts •ever•. I know that you CAN, but it just feels cheap to me!
I wish there was some kind of a guide to the etiquette of Mastodon, and to online posting in general. Wouldn't that be cool?
Is wearing earbuds in the grocery store antisocial?
And FTR
Could those who think it's acceptable #mastodon
#etiquette to post a 1 line comment about a video link with no attempt to describe its content please fuck right off back to the shitty layer of the internet where that's considered acceptable
thanks
when I was a kid I remember there was this "Etiquette for Ladies" TV show that would come on after The Price is Right when I was at my nanny's (my mom's stepmom) house
my weird little autistic trans girl brain treated that like gospel
I tried so hard to be a perfect little lady
and I couldn't figure out why it didn't make my mom happy
she's always very lady-like, I thought she'd like it
so I assumed I was just doing it wrong, or not good enough
I tried even harder, and eventually that "be lady-like" became one of the self-critical voices in my head
I still feel gross when I do something "unladylike" and it's weird

> Is It Really Rude to Eat on a Video Call?
https://www.rd.com/article/etiquette-eating-on-video-call/
In #ChampagneProblems. Way I see it, if you WFH and your bosses schedule meetings during meal times, people will be eating. Suck it up, deal with it, you inconsiderate snob.
Otherwise, yea, wait til after the meeting to eat.
I do like the idea some folks agree to eat together while meeting as a way to bond.
Is it rude not to share a family recipe? Here’s how to decline the right way.
Should you ring your bicycle bell
Do you ring your bicycle bell? When I retuned to cycling, the first thing I did with my new bike is what I did as a kid, I removed the spoke protector, reflector and the bell.https://sunshinecoastcouriers.wordpress.com/2026/04/29/should-you-ring-your-bicycle-bell/
