@ariadne the Thai soccer team incident where he made the BS submarine, tried to be the center of attention then accused the local guy who questioned him of being a pedophile is when I realized he had some serious narcissistic personality flaws and was at least partially a phony. People easily forget.
@codinghorror if you think of a smartphone as a phone, a personal computer, and a (video) camera, then consider the entire volume that all of those devices occupy vs a smartphone then it’s quite accurate.

@tdverstynen

Also by longtermist logic the current world’s climate & other problems are our hunter-gather ancestors fault anyway. Or their single-celled precursors, so we’re off the hook. Problem solved. Ethically cleansed.

@tdverstynen
Yes, you basically up the same, with the the unfolding (or/ and refolding) of time rending all action meaningless over a large enough scale.

@tdverstynen

If you take a radical view of longtermism to its logical conclusion ie the heat death of the universe and it ultimately doesn’t matter, so you live for the immediate here & now. A sort of radical nihilist paradoxical longtermist hedonist. Seems dangerous. Can justify anything.

Weather could change dramatically, especially when it comes to rainfall. https://trib.al/5REi6MB
The jet stream is moving north. Here's what that means for you.

The jet stream determines lots of large-scale weather patterns in the northern hemisphere, and its migration north could be devastating.

And of course the governments provide all sorts of infrastructure and services that benefit these companies so taxes and mutual benefit must be ensured

@ladyunicornejg @rbreich

The government funds like all investors should be treated fairly and given appropriate returns on investments and because it’s a medicine, recipients shouldn’t be exploited/ extorted. It’s oversimplified but these are the basic ethics we should be able to agree on.

@rbreich

where I live in the Czech Republic the state sets caps on drug prices and pharma companies still do very so, there’s that too. You have to balance what’s moral with what maintains a healthy market.

We have the luxury of being a small market sort of free riding on research and profits from profits of international companies though.
