I think it's time to start a new pseudophilosophy called shorttermism. Basically take whatever longtermism proposes and do the opposite.

@tdverstynen

If you take a radical view of longtermism to its logical conclusion ie the heat death of the universe and it ultimately doesn’t matter, so you live for the immediate here & now. A sort of radical nihilist paradoxical longtermist hedonist. Seems dangerous. Can justify anything.

@psiphi Unless you subscribe to the big bounce theory of the universe, in which case everything just cycles back again in a deterministic loop for infinity and nothing has meaning because "long term" has no horizon.
@tdverstynen
Yes, you basically up the same, with the the unfolding (or/ and refolding) of time rending all action meaningless over a large enough scale.

@tdverstynen

Also by longtermist logic the current world’s climate & other problems are our hunter-gather ancestors fault anyway. Or their single-celled precursors, so we’re off the hook. Problem solved. Ethically cleansed.

@psiphi I do like the term “ethic cleansing” to describe what the adherents of longtermism are doing.
