Field Archaeologist, frustrated theory nerd, making archaeology faster/easier with computers because I'm lazy. RPG and SF nerd too.
@UllaMR it is striking how similar those are to Norse runes.
@redthewizard could be. I did a semi-deep dive into that area and found a lot that weren't classical circles. There are a lot of recumbent circles in that area though. It's an interesting cluster regardless.
@yetiinabox it is pretty, that's very true. I would love to have all the data for Europe, Asia, Africa and so on.
@redthewizard it does that, but I get the feeling that this density is more to do with clava style burial cairns which are sometimes surrounded by a circle of small megaliths but aren't the classical stone circle that we general associate with the term.
Did you know that if you calculate thiessen polygons for every stone circle on the island of Britain that you get a very pretty picture which tells you absolutely nothing relevant at all? Pretty though.

Tbh "Lara Croft and the lower back pain" sounds like the most archaeologically realistic thing to have come out of that franchise.

@mrundkvist I've heard good things about Eternal Lies, it is sat on my shelf at home waiting for me, and have had the Alexandrian Remix recommended. FR is much shorter and, imo, has a more interesting structure.
@mrundkvist ach, we all bleed the same when shot in the back by Stalinists. XD
@mrundkvist hahaha, I used to go to meetings with ironed trousers and a wee leather bound notebook just to wind up some of the more paranoid comrades. XD
