Field Archaeologist, frustrated theory nerd, making archaeology faster/easier with computers because I'm lazy. RPG and SF nerd too.
Folks, I think I am finally ready to Program on my Computer

Wyrm – Citation Network Explorer

Recently, I've had a number of students wrestling with the challenges of scoping a field, pulling together a literature review, and trying to determine how different pieces might be in conversation with each other. I used to sometimes sit students down with Ed Summer's old 'Etudier' package which was great; but Google Scholar doesn't really let you pull things out in any way that doesn't involve scraping, and scraping websites has…

The Minions session at @CAA_int was really interesting, so many ideas to shamelessly steal! I wish that I had brought my laptop so that I could have shared some of the little tools I use to stop myself going mad and spare myself repetitive strain.

It is way too early. I thought that the point of doing digital archaeology was that you can get up later than field workers? XD
Day one of sessions at @CAA_int 2026 after a full day of workshops yesterday.

After a few months of sabbatical to study I am really not used to getting up with/before the sun.

I keep on seeing signs like this. Unfortunately they mean nothing to me...

I may be on my way to @CAA_int 2026

Possible controversial opinion, but #projecthailmary is a bad movie. Oh, it looks really pretty for sure and the banter between the heroes is fun, but it totally fails at telling its story. A large part of the fun of the book was Grace, to paraphrase The Martian, "sciencing the shit" out of problems and that is not something that you can "show don't tell".

The film is just a series of pretty scenes from the book strung together in a similar way but totally devoid of what made the book good.
