Me and Clippy get high, roll some #Tangerine Dream on vinyl, and talk about #quantummechanics like it's 1979 all over again. #4A #ChatGPT

This post is a great reminder that, for the purpose of merely reading or light markup of PDFs, #Okular is freely available from the Windows app store and, of course, always available on Linux. Okular is my go-to PDF appliance for day-to-day work.
If I need to do heavy stuff, I use MasterPDF Editor (not free), but I still prefer Okular in any given moment for the light stuff.
Attached: 1 image Adobe is now processing all your PDFs in the cloud, by default. The setting to “Enable generative AI features in Acrobat” was on, and I didn’t know it until I opened a document and Adobe asked me if I wanted a document summary. It’s annoying to have to click “No,” so I opened settings to disable the prompt. THE PROBLEM I sign Non-Disclosure Agreements for many of my clients. Adobe is a potential leak of protected information. I don’t know what Adobe does with this information. I don’t know what they store, or for how long. I don’t know what country (or countries) the data is stored in. I don’t know what LLMs are trained with this data. And I don’t need to know. What I need to know is that they won’t use default opt-in as a legal excuse to wiretap my information. I recommend that you check your Adobe settings on all devices, for all Adobe accounts. #CallMeIfYouNeedMe #FIFONetworks #cybersecurity
David Suzuki says something I believe: it's too late to save the civilization we're used to, but not too late to save some of your neighbors for a while. Some quotes:
"Q: You’ve been quoted many times over the last couple decades saying it’s not too late to tackle climate change, so when did you come to this realization that the battle is lost?
A: It’s been coming all along.
We had previously said that the choice with climate change was mitigation and adaptation, and people began saying 20 years ago that we had to talk about adaptation. Other people said we can’t talk about adaptation because that acknowledges that climate change is real and impacting people. Well, we’re way past the time when we should have been thinking about adaptation.

For me, what we’ve got to do now is hunker down. The units of survival are going to be local communities, so I’m urging local communities to get together. Finland is offering a great example because the Finnish government has sent a letter to all of their citizens warning of future emergencies, whether they’re earthquakes, floods, droughts, or storms. They’re going to come and they’re going to be more urgent and prolonged.
Governments will not be able to respond on the scale or speed that is needed for these emergencies, so Finland is telling their citizens that they’re going to be at the front line of whatever hits and better be sure you’re ready to meet it. Find out who on your block can’t walk because you’re going to have to deal with that. Who has wheelchairs? Who has fire extinguishers? Where is the available water? Do you have batteries or generators?"
Read the whole thing, it explains more.
