Writing biography of America's most unlikely band of brothers, Polk Miller & His Old South Quartette. Admired by Twain, recorded by Edison, disbanded by fear.

Ah Saturday, editing day.
Hey y'all! The SHA is on Mastodon!

#introduction time.
I'm a writer of books living in Dundee, also writing copy for brands in Paris. Currently editing a can of worms that intertwines music, race, African American history, white supremacy, Confederate memory, you name it. Originally from Sydney, Australia, came to Scotland via years in Kent, Hampshire, and Paris.
Love equality, fed up with the Tories. Let's follow each other.

Eat-the-rich food banks.
We've closed up our Twitter account. A platform whose owner uses it to bait violent anti-democratic conspiracy theories and engage in overt anti-semitism is not a place compatible with our mission to inform, create accountability, and improve democracy.
"Race is a collective hallucination … a biological fiction.” - Victor Ray, On Critical Race Theory.
Critical Race Theory is such an unhelpful name, it has easily been picked up by white nationalists since few understand it. I've been looking for another term that can be understood in a flash and without being misconstrued (ha! good luck, I hear you say). Something like "The True Racist History of the USA, the world, and Everything" - but shorter. Even that is reductive.

One word I'd ban: whom.

Any other suggestions?

I interviewed the 95 yo dau. of the man standing far left, Randall Graves Jr., tenor from Old South Quartette.
Her dad died when she was 7 in 1934. When I played her a certain song he recorded in '28, her eyes lit up & she clapped wildly in recognition. Joy!
If Frederick Douglass was the most photographed American in the 19th C, who gets the gong for the 20th?
