This is my backup plan if Twitter goes into a binfire.

Get vaccinated & wear a good mask 😷. Be a part of the solution. Kindness and empathy necessary. Follow the science and experience.

Employed in IT in the Agribusiness sector. Tweets are all mine & reflect my interests & views.

@StartupMonkey It's a Toot.
@Caro_Dew_ Thanks for posting that Caroline. Good that James has found his place and hopefully encourages others to do the same.
@criprights Welcome to the Mastodon. Just look at people who are followers or following to find your Ex Bird friends. It seems to be a nice place here.

@jamespblloyd Excellent. Thank you. Have read it and tweeted it so people can gain more understanding. 👍

I updated my blog post about what Mastodon is and how it works based on my recent experience.

Please share with any friends/colleagues who are still using the Bird Site.

An ad-free*, open source Twitter alternative: Mastodon — Bad Grammar, Good Syntax

With Twitter being the de facto online “town-square” for political (and scientific) discussions, a major issue is that we as users have little to no say in how it is run and who runs it. But what is the alternative to a billionaire owned online town-square? Well, Mastodon is a perfectly cromulent

Bad Grammar, Good Syntax

The whole idea of the town square is that it belongs to the town. No one should be able to buy it. And honestly, they can’t.

Twitter isn’t really the town square, any more than Facebook is or MySpace was.

We are the town square. It goes where we go. No one can buy that.

I don't think Mastodon or the fediverse has ever received this much attention before. It's a great opportunity for people to finally see that social media can be done differently, that it can be a protocol not under control of any single company.

Hey new people and those thinking of joining, you do NOT need to sign up on huge servers!

You can follow and interact with people on any server from any server, the servers are connected.

It would really, really help the network right now if you could sign up on medium or small size servers. You will still be able to follow and interact with whoever you want, and the network as a whole will work much better.

A good safe place for beginners to find servers to join is https://joinmastodon.org/servers

@timcake @Daryltractor I started here but later today will be migrating to aus.social. There are tools under set up to migrate.

It feels a bit clunky but I'm getting used to it and enjoying it.
