@Woody Yes, I heard there was an Aira desktop app
@Woody Yeah, but the problem is you’re not really using windows. You’re using the BRF editor or key braille. The other thing I wanna test with evolve is something that I can do with windows already on my PC. It’s pretty cool. What I do is to turn a podcast into an MP3 file. Then under windows I can do an alt h d t, and I can create a written file of the podcast. I wonder if the evolved can do something like that? It should be able to, because it’s running a full version of Windows 11.
@Woody Hi David. Do you know if they’ve made it where you can open large braille files on the evolve? On the BI 20, you cannot open large braille files. Large TXT or DOCX files are fine on the BI 20 X, but it seems like if you try to load some really big braille file, it will not open. It tells you that the file is too large. As an example, try to open the Bible as a BRF file and see if the program will allow you to open it. Delight.
@DavidGoldfield Thanks David. When I first saw the note from Humanware, I was concerned. Because I thought maybe there was gonna be some kind of a stripped down version of jaws that worked better on the evolve. I’m really excited about the evolve. This is something I wanted years ago. Even though it’s rather expensive, I’m gonna try to figure out how to get one, but I would like to see more about it. I hope they’ll be some kind of a technology fair near my home here in Fresno, where I can get my hands on one and play with it a little bit.
@DavidGoldfield Yeah, David. The first thing I thought is maybe that there was a different version of jaws that would run on the evolve. But as I think about it, maybe it’s just a way for those who are not jaws users to get a version of Jaws to work on their new notetakers. I wonder will it be a strip down version of Jaws to work better with the evolve? And I wonder what the cost will be?
@DavidGoldfield I thought you could just install your own copy of Jaws on an evolve. I thought you could install any Windows program you wanted to on the evolve. What’s the difference between our copy of jaws and the one that they want to get us to pay for? And what is that subscription going to cost?
@Woody Well, I did a refresh of Downcast, and it just sort of showed up. Great. I always loved your podcast.
@Woody It doesn’t show up when I do a search in Downcast
@JonathanMosen @podcast What also puzzles me is, how did a no-name company get Amazon to give them the information necessary to make Kindle books accessible with voice stream reader? Hims and humanware have been trying to do that for years. my guess is that they are doing it illegally. My wife used to have an app that would allow her to unprotect Kindle books. However, every time Amazon changed how they would save their Kindle books, the app would no longer work. If Amazon is now giving that information to third-party apps, I’ll be excited to see it come to my brailliant as well as the victor reader stream, and the sense player.
