There has understandably been a lot of talk in our community about Voice Dream Reader's decision to introduce a subscription model for all customers.
For me, the critical area of concern is that Voice Dream Reader is violating Apple's very clear Guidelines around what they can and can't do when moving to a subscription model.
For those who paid in good faith and may not be able to afford the subscription, I encourage you to read a blog post I have written summarising this issue. It contains some things you can do to urge Apple to enforce their policies and protect us as consumers.

I wish Voice Dream Reader a bright future, but they have breached Apple’s Guidelines. Apple must protect consumers with swift action

Update, 7 April 2024   Applause Group has just released this statement. “Hi everyone,   Following our recent announcement to transition Voice Dream to a subscription, we received an overw…

Mosen At Large
@JonathanMosen I hope they really consider multi tear subscription, I do not have a Mac and I'm comfortable using only the voices that I have on my phone, and purchasing power parity also needed to be considered. Thanks for the swift advocacy and all your good work to raise awareness about this issue,
@JonathanMosen not familiar with the issue. So you paid for an app and now you cannot use it anymore since it switched to a subscription model. Sounds like you should get a refund then.
@JonathanMosen Very nicely writen. I have used voice dream since 2014, and of course, I'm not happy with these developments I'm passing this along to others in my state who I know use the app..
@JonathanMosen @podcast What also puzzles me is, how did a no-name company get Amazon to give them the information necessary to make Kindle books accessible with voice stream reader? Hims and humanware have been trying to do that for years. my guess is that they are doing it illegally. My wife used to have an app that would allow her to unprotect Kindle books. However, every time Amazon changed how they would save their Kindle books, the app would no longer work. If Amazon is now giving that information to third-party apps, I’ll be excited to see it come to my brailliant as well as the victor reader stream, and the sense player.
@pfhj2000 @podcast I agree that the fact that they have managed this is curious, and I hope they’re doing it in a sustainable way.
@JonathanMosen well i heard your interview with the head of applause and your commentary at the time. I have had voice dream for a number of years and have not used it much. but having heard just how versatile it is and going back and taking a look, i immediately signed up for thesubscription. I also unsubscribed from Capti which was my former text and web reader which had very minimal development over the past six or so years i have been using it. software and hardware vendors have been misleading and cheating us, the consumer for decades right back to DOS 3.3 and ever since. Promises are rarely kept, hardware configs often will never work, compatibility between platforms has been promised for years and rarely occurs seamlessly. but if Voice Dream is most likely the best App fit for purpose, then it might be worth supporting despite all the howls of foul play. it all should have been handled better from Day 1 as you stated in your Interview, but spilt milk is now stale spilt milk and we either accept or avoid Voice Dream or just move on. let apple do its thing but have been happily and seamlessly moving all sorts of things into the app and making the most of a really good interface and service. if Applause does not do a good job in improving Voice Dream over the next year, I will be first in line to cancel. whether we be blind consumers or jost every day oridinary consumers, vendors owe us quality, honesty and reliability. To my mind, Applause have one year to earn a big green tick for each of our expectations.
@signalman As I said here yesterday, I was asked by Applause to attend a meeting. I am confident a fair solution is iminent. That didn't happen by throwing in the towel, it happened through constructive advocacy. Next week should be good.
