i was born in Ashfield NSW 1902, and grew up in St Ives, attending Abbotsleigh School, where my essay describing Gallipoli as a strategical blunder was not given a high mark. I wore a “no conscription” badge to school, and was always fiercely patriotic.

my study of Medicine was interrupted when
i contracted encephalitis lethargica

after that, i received a small monthly stipend from my father/ his estate but i lived on the street, and was arrested and “falsely convicted 195 times, fairly 100 times”

in 1941 I joined the Australia First movement.

i spent a lot of time reading in the state library of nsw before being banned in the late 1950s

i sometimes sat in a Sydney bank smoking cigarettes under a sign reading "Gentlemen will refrain from smoking"

for a payment between sixpence or 3 shillings i would quote verses from shakespeare
and i had difficult relationship with many taxi drivers

for several years, i slept on the porch between the rectory and vestry of Christ Church
and spent the last 7 years of my life in the care of the Little Sisters of the Poor
