"Musk’s new Twitter policies helped spread Russian propaganda, E.U. says

Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) has played a major role in allowing Russian propaganda about Ukraine to reach more people than before the war began, according to a study released this week by the European Commission, the governing body of the European Union.

The research found that, despite voluntary commitments to take action against Russian propaganda by the largest social media companies, including Meta, Russian disinformation against Ukraine, thrived. (...)

Musk’s X was not alone in having failed to stop the spread of Russian propaganda, the study found. Instagram, Telegram and Facebook, owned by Meta, also drew criticism."

Musk’s new Twitter policies helped spread Russian propaganda, E.U. says

A study commissioned by the European Commission found that “the reach and influence of Kremlin-backed accounts has grown further in the first half of 2023, driven in particular by the dismantling of Twitter’s safety standards.”

Long COVID is a serious health concern in Europe | The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation

Nearly 36 million Europeans – or 1 in 30 – may have experienced long COVID in the first three years of the COVID-19 pandemic, announced the World Health Organization (WHO) European regional director Dr. Hans Kluge, who cited the latest estimates by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME).

I've been testing DuckDuckGo's App Tracking Protection (beta) for the past 24 hours.
Here's a small comparison between #Twitter #Mastodon and #Bluesky (with about equal usage/screen time).
Bluesky is by far the worst with almost 2200 tracking attempts.

Edit: I'd just like to make clear that this beta can be used by anyone with the regular DuckDuckGo browser app (on Android, don't know about iOS).

It’s fascinating to start seeing multiple trend pieces that point out that people not having to commute for an hour or more after work is stimulating the economy. They are more likely to go out to dinner, a concert or take a weekend vacation.

Some argue this has staved off a recession.

Remote work is the reason why Wall Street was wrong about a recession

Economists have predicted that spending would slow for a while now, forecasting a recession sometime this year. But that hasn't happened yet.

Two dangerous falsehoods about vaccines:
Claims vaccines don't work (typically from Republicans), and claims that vaccines alone are sufficient to protect against Covid without other measures such as masks and ventilation (typically from Democrats).
