@DiogoConstantino @nando161 Yes, sorry for the confusion. I am spending a lot of time on both Signal and Proton privacy and mixed the two together. Email protocols (SMTP, IMAP) certainly have more exposure from a privacy point of view. Especially when exchanging Proton to non-Proton accounts. I am aware that Proton will respond to Swiss law enforcement demands and of the mutual agreements that Swiss LE have with other countries. I would be interested in what metadata has been shared and the circumstances surrounding that.
@DiogoConstantino @nando161 This is very interesting. Can you provide a link to the reporting on this? I would be interested in what metadata Proton provided. TIA.
@ikklegemzuniverseplus @DiogoConstantino @nando161 Yes. And there are ways to avoid providing a credit card for payment.
@DiogoConstantino @nando161 Yes, of course this is true. I think it is important to understand the architecture of Signal and Proton. There is very little information they can give to law enforcement due to how they implement end-to-end encryption and their policies about not retaining log information.
@superball Yes, in the sense that you can attach files, photos, etc. to messages. Of course, not as functional as Proton documents.
@patrickleavy Wow, that is so cool! I will add that to documentation. Thanks!

Signal can help you organize a group

I have been amazed at the stories about neighbors helping neighbors in Minneapolis and in other towns and cities. Nothing can replace the courage and kindness of the people who have risen to the occasion to help others. And one tool they use to organize their neighbors and friends is Signal.

You might think of Signal as a messaging app. It is that, but it is so much more. In addition to messages, Signal supports private video meetings, phone calls and file distribution. And it supports Groups! Signal groups provides an online meeting place for a community and it supports the security and privacy that Signal is famous for.

Once you know how Signal groups work, it becomes second nature as an organizing platform. The biggest challenge? The initial work of learning how to set up and organize Signal Groups can be a challenge. And that’s the focus of today’s announcement:

A new guide is now available to help you organize your work to create and manage a Signal Group. You can get it for free here:
https://mypersonalprivacy.net/pdf_files/how-to-create-and-manage-signal-groups/

The guide includes practical suggestions on how to organize your work that include creating different Signal groups for your organization, designing a code of conduct, vetting and on-boarding new members, and managing the group. There are also step-by-step instructions on creating and configuring Signal Groups. This guide should be helpful for anyone who is new to Signal Groups and wants to organize a group. Of course, you can get information from Signal directly. The intent of this guide is to provide a source that can be downloaded in one PDF and shared with others.

This guide, and all of the other guides on the My Personal Privacy website, are free to download and share. There are guides for private email, browsing, search, virtual private networks, AI and other applications. You can access them here:

We are surrounded by those who courageously stand for justice, humanity and kindness. This work is in honor of them and dedicated to them.

HOW TO CREATE AND MANAGE SIGNAL GROUPS

@zepy32 @kagihq

Will research, thanks!

@patrick

Great thought! I know that Patrick Leavy (@patrickleavy) of the Rebel Tech Alliance is also working on this.

Right now my focus is on supporting resistance groups in the U.S. I am building a presentation kit and user guides to help groups deploy and manage Signal. That's in addition to user guides that are already available for Proton Mail, and other privacy-focused applications. You are welcome to any of the materials here:
