There a lot of people who thought “toot” was silly. Wow, not even close to the bottom of the barrel.
I did something I thought I wouldn’t ever do, enter a baking contest. I didn’t win but had a fun time being back in the kitchen again. My entries were a black sesame cake with yuzu curd and ginger cream cheese icing and North African spiced oatmeal cookies with dried apricots and white chocolate. #Baking
I’ll admit one of my problematic faves are fireworks. This year the gateway arch, another problematic thing, was a pretty good frame.
Second batch of oatmeal cookies and still trying to dial in this recipe. It’s hard because my taste is jacked up and I can’t really taste things properly. Folks who are test subjects like the heat from the ras el hanout but the dried apricots are getting lost. Next batch I think I’ll try roasted apricots instead.
For the past few months cooking and baking have been very utilitarian, in service to managing my #MultipleMyeloma and it’s treatments. Today a few days after leaving the hospital for my stem cell transplant I’m back with a big, old stack of lazy Sunday pancakes. Feels good.
