Since I've been lurking on Mastodon for about a week or so, maybe an #introduction is in order.

I work in education and have a wide variety of interests from sports to politics.

I'm one of the many Twitter refugees and I'm finding that I don't miss that platform as nearly as much as I thought.

Hope to meet others here, but I've been glad to find those journalists that I liked reading over there.

May the holiday season be good to everyone.

if you are at all able (or able to learn), i highly recommend:
• creating your own website
• on your own domain
• acquiring copies of your data that you care about that's on third party sites (particularly twitter)
*Sheepish request* I'm new to Mastodon, but a lot of my former Twitter followers don't know I'm here yet. Someone suggested I could simply ask you fine people to boost me. Would you be so kind? (I promise to post a photo of my dog to say thanks). #WelcomeToMastodon

Everyone hoping antitrust cases are going to solve the Twitter implosion are going to have an unhappy time.

The law isn't going to fix it. Antitrust requires finding that Twitter is market-dominant in the US, which is probably isn't, and the EU is very big but very slow.

I get it; it sucks. But there's no cavalry coming to fix it so you don't have to make hard choices. It lives or dies based only on whether enough users choose to leave to break its dominance.

If Musk "steps down" as Twitter CEO, per his latest bogus "poll", some things to remember:

1) He'll still be in control. The owner sets the policy the CEO carries out. The owner decides in the end.

2) He lies incessantly. Nothing he says can be trusted, ever.

3) Big Journalism will breathlessly cover the charade as if it meant something, and will continue to support a man who loathes honest reporting and has contempt for genuine freedom of expression.

So, tried to post my mastodon link on the bird place...

Apparently, it's malware.
