Me: And I believe you offer a seΓ±or discount.
Waiter: You mean the senior discount?
Me, wearing a poncho and sombrero: I knew it was too bueno to be true.

there are a lot of different kinds of people on #Mastodon, we don't agree on everything
but we all at least care about the difference between "good" and "bad" social media
that's pretty cool
Europeans, when they see Americans rallying for military budget cuts to fund universal healthcare:
A list of former #Reddit subs that are now in the #Fediverse. You can add to the list too, I believe.

"I am an adult"
-boring
-common
-reveals that you pay taxes
"I am a former baby"
-shows growth
-could spruce up your resume
-squashes any suspicion that you were not once a baby
In see that in the wake the #FranceRiots much talk as been given to the rise of far-right support. This phenomenon is often attributed to intentional bigotry or orchestration by organized groups and ideologically charged media.
But is there a narrative that seeks to understand it as a warrented organic reaction? People need narratives to express their feelings. If the dominant Left continues overwhelmingly composed of bleeding hearts, the rest will stay at the mercy of the loudest Right.
It's probably obvious to most of you, but a big difference between the commercial social media platforms and the fediverse is that as those commercial platform grow, they get additional revenue from ads, from selling personal information, and otherwise monetizing their users. While that is turning out to not actually pay the bills for them, in the fediverse, just about every instance is run by volunteers and funded by donations or out of the volunteers' pockets. It's a labor of love and a hope for a better future. When traffic grows, we need to expand our capacity.
That is why I am asking, if you are able, please consider donating to the instance you on to help keep the fediverse ecosystem going. Typically the /about web page will have details on how to donate.
Note: I am well aware that many of you are not in a financial position to donate - and that is OK. We are here to serve you as well. Donations are completely optional.
Been exploring #Mastodon for the past few days. A growing yearning inside me for the old days of the chaotic and mysterious internet. The latest phase of social media era instills in me a sense of deep boredom while simultaneously promising an endless source of entertainment. It was fucking with my wiring. My last refuge was #Reddit.
The idea of #fediverse seems exciting. But ultimately might just be the Linux of social media: it's too good, but apart from the niche no one wants to bother.
