London based improvising orchestra brought together by C Kraabel and made up of women, trans and non-binary people.
Emeritus Prof Christopher MayThe plight of women in prison is getting worse with the use of force too often to deal with mental health crisis; under-trained & over-stretched staff lead to a failure to de-escalate problems in women's prisons (where the vast majority of inmates are dealing with mental health issues).
There is a real need for urgent reform & too reduce the use of custodial sentences (especially for mothers & pregnant women)... this is not a humane solution.

Braille is literacy.
Many people think it can be substituted by speech synthesis, by audiobooks, by other things. It can't.
Voice is serial, it unfolds in time. It requires working memory. Braille is static. It unfolds in space, remains stable in time. It backs working memory, does not consume it. For things that require pinning down relationships (mathematics, music, programming) braile has clear advantages.
This is not to say people can't manage without it. I don't always use a braille display. But it makes things better: learning, accuracy, performance, speed.
Witholding braille from blind people is withholding literacy, it's denying capacity.
Don't fucking do that.
PaulPSA: If you have a postal vote in England (and possibly other parts of the UK), you now have to renew it every 3 years instead of it being indefinite. The deadline for most existing postal voters is 31st January - if you don't renew by then your postal vote will be cancelled. You can renew online, but it's not automatic and you have to wait for approval.
This is to stop 'voter fraud', which is practically non-existent in the UK.
