@oa_bison

In case you've just written a paper and are still uncertain where to publish it (but you want to publish it Open Access, of course!), the TIB Hanover has the right tool for you: their Bibliometric and Semantic Open Access Recommender Network (BISON). It finds suitable Open Access journals based on the title, abstract, and references of your paper and, perhaps most important, is GDPR-compliant and does not store any of your data.

#DiamondOpenAccess journals often struggle with getting enough financial support. Joint funding from academic libraries offers a possible way forward for funding from regular library funds. Librarians need help finding these offers and need information to decide about possible support. At #craft_oa2025, @aeppelin presents the #DiamondFundingNavigator by @tibhannover that makes these offers visible and offers more information.

Diamond Funding Navigator – comprehensive overview of financing consortia for Diamond Open Access publications

Many initiatives for collective financing of Diamond Open Access publications struggle to gain sufficient attention by potential supporters. The new service “Diamond Funding Navigator”, developed and provided by Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB), helps by providing a comprehensive overview of those initiatives: increased visibility of the offers, as well as embedded possibilities for analysis, can lead to increased participation in these consortia and thus ultimately facilitate the achievement of their funding objectives. In the poster, we present the concept of the Diamond Funding Navigator and highlight some benefits: Since many potential supporting institutions find it difficult to evaluate the extent to which their researchers are involved in the publications to be funded, we have implemented the possibility to retrieve their publication data from OpenAlex for these specific publications. On our poster, we will also provide insights into the technical basis on which the tool was developed. Conference participants are invited to get involved by exploring the Diamond Funding Navigator, giving feedback and (if in the position to do so) providing information about new consortia for Diamond Open Access publications.

We've improved @oa_bison - the open-access journal recommender! Based on last year's research, we've updated our recommendation method:
- Switched from a custom BiLSTM to Qwen3-Embeddings
- Changed the Elasticsearch scoring
=> the recommendations should be more accurate and less biased by journal size

Under the hood, we've also updated Debian, PostgreSQL and Python dependencies.
