A book idea: “Life before software.” All of the amazing mechanical and electromechanical solutions to what today would be software: Old pinball machines, Backspace on a Selectric, tons of a/v stuff, Linotype, Comptometer, phone relays, probably a million other things. The net result of the largest peaceful protest in US history, is that elected officials, including Dems:

* addressed absolutely none of the structural problems being protested
* increased funding for the police. Increased! Over and above what the police even asked for

So yeah, Black folk get touchy when it's suggested that we don't protest as hard as people in Europe do. We do. And we do it peacefully. And we get killed for it. And nothing changes.
