Just another one of Nikkiana's Fediverse accounts....

I've been playing around a lot with watercolors and doodling lately, and watching a lot of YouTube videos of people who are doing the same.

I'm not in love with a lot of the experimentation at the moment, but I'm thinking of it more like a journey rather than fixating on a destination.

I expect this one will likely get torn up someday and be part of a collage, as it's on thinner paper than what's really good for watercolor.

Early this morning I had a dream that it snowed in July and the roads were plowed but not salted because there was no salt, they were too slippery to drive on so I had to drive my car on the sidewalks where there was still some snow for traction, and I drove in circles around a neighborhood trying to find a safe place to park, but I couldn't find one. It wasn't safe to keep driving, where I was driving was not the ideal place to be driving, but there was nowhere to stop.

I even woke up twice to use the bathroom, and when I went back to sleep each time the dream looped and looped, looping around the neighborhood compulsively just trying to find somewhere to put my car and relax, but there was nowhere that felt good to stop.

Somehow, I feel like this is a metaphor for the current state of the social media landscape.

Finally finished another duckling, and another step closer to what I'm aiming for. Might still do some tweaking to the left side when I'm more rested, but other than that I'm calling it done.

Can somebody explain to me the demographic Tesla's Cybertruck is for? Because that's one ugly ass truck...

2023 Tesla Cybertruck What We Know So Far

The Tesla Cybertruck looks like it was dropped off by an alien race, but it has the capabilities to challenge all of the top-selling pickup trucks.

I think about this transition in Internet culture in my lifetime frequently.

Capitalists will look straight to your eyes and tell you that the default state of a person is homeless, on the street, starving. That's where you _should_ be if you're not working.

They actually believe that people have no inherent value outside of their labor.

And yet, somehow, that view is considered normal and the people that have it, sane.

Me 15 years ago: wow everything should be connected to the internet!

Me now: STOP connecting EVERYTHING to the INTERNET, keep as much of everything LOCAL to the system as possible. NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE ONLINE. AAAGGGHH.

One of the things I've been thinking a fair bit about as I've been scrolling through the Fediverse on different instances the past couple of days is how often I have hesitated posting thoughts I've had because I'm having trouble deciding which instance I want to be posting from.

Scientists are beginning to think that "depression" is in fact an umbrella term for *a bunch of different conditions* -- which could require different treatments.

"Nemeroff expects that someday the gold standard for care won’t be just one treatment — it will be a set of diagnostic tools that can determine the best therapeutic approach to an individual patient’s depression"

The Cause of Depression Is Probably Not What You Think | Quanta Magazine

Depression has often been blamed on low levels of serotonin in the brain. That answer is insufficient, but alternatives are coming into view and changing our understanding of the disease.
