Tag along if you want to see what I am up to 😊

Hey @sam.break3.social 👋
I've been collecting music, movies and books for some years now. Running self-hosted services at home like PLEX (movies, TV & music) and Audiobookshelf (e- & audiobooks, podcasts).

So where do I get my media.
Movies - I do not know if there is any service that sells DRM-free movies, but physical copies can be ripped to produce a digital copy from the disk, but this can be illegal 🏴‍☠️ depending on where you live. MakeMKV is a free tool and up for the task.

Music - I buy my music from Bandcamp, Qobuz and 7digital. All of which provide DRM-free downloads. Music can also be ripped similarly to movies. Foobar2000

Books - Adlibris, HumbleBundle and StoryBundle are great places to start from. But DRM can be removed from media purchased from certain stores that sell DRM protected media. Calibre with DeDRM plug-ins can handle that part.

Then archiving and running few services on a homeserver makes it possible to stream all of this wherever you are 🙂

Hey, nice blog! Love the style, art and all. You will appear on my RSS feed from now on 👀

**Discovering the power of RSS**
Should have done this much sooner, but it's AMAZING.

I've been distancing myself from YouTube lately. Finding alternative platforms and ways to subscribe to content. RSS have been a great tool for the purpose and I Iove how I can get feeds from services like @peertube and @odysee
@newpipe is also great tool to be able to watch channels that are only on YT, but Google prevents me to watch anything with my VPN. Maybe I host my own VPN instead, but that's a project for another time. For now I won't have access to YouTube and that's fine.

The next phase is my phone that I already have waiting for adoption, after which I can say bye bye to Google

@dbtechyt I'd love to be able to self-host an app to collect HR, GPS and other data from my Garmin smartwatch. Running, hiking, biking etc.
@samxaviauk Hope there is more to come. This was very nostalgic and interesting 😊

Do you also hate when #bigtech makes the problem solving so hard for the end-user that a big portion of the people just give up before ever finding a way to contact a real human?
Talking about recent experience with #microsoft and #meta

Have you had similar experiences? Did you give up or eventually found help?

@eivindm
Just recently I also have been moving away from big tech, more or less the same reasons. Getting into self-hosting and learning a lot on the way. Looking forward to updates on your journey 👍
