@ZachWeinersmith @freci Also hating squirrels (grey) who have become a new problem.
@ZachWeinersmith @freci Ah yes. Interesting point, rootstock. I have always understood British trees (our trees are roughly 54N 1W) are on British rootstock (from Maling) and I just don't know how far they get exported. Surely this affects strength and resistance to difficulty as much as cultivar?

@newstik @sundogplanets I know! Although the bus from the airport in autumn went past soo many pumpkins growing in fields that it was a bit of a treat too.
Luddite shouldn't be used as a insult anymore. They were right about more than most of us are willing to admit.

You can judge a person by the size of their moral circle. Trump, for instance, has the smallest possible moral circle, containing only him. Be the opposite: expand your circle. Include, for example, animals currently raised for food. We shut them out of our consciences. It's time to bring them in.

Unfortunately I can't figure out how to bridge to the official BlueSky account,

The National Astronomy Meeting starts today, 2025-July-7, in Durham, U.K.

Should be exciting to see the breadth of astronomical work presented.

And on Friday lunchtime, a community session on environmental sustainability in astronomy, instrumentation, and cosmology.

@astroroyalscot.bsky.social They are great! I once sent a postcard from France to "Where Science is Cool Madingley Road Cambridge"...and it did reach the British Antarctic Survey
