It never occurred to me but I guess you can get "expanding mandrels" which are basically an inside-out ER-series collet. Neat, and obvious in retrospect. I've been debating making some gears and this would be perfect workholding...

accidentally wound up with the most meta-compliant possible weapon loadout in #FTL

This morning's quick and ugly hack: +5V bus on my partner's bafang e-bike has decided to become a 0.5V bus, even with everything disconnected. Haven't tested it on the bike yet but here's my field-expedient 5V(ish)/55mA output, 60V-tolerant, short-circuit-safe, replacement regulator. The LEDs are taking the place of a Zener diode because I don't have any Zener diodes, but they also conveniently turn off when the supply is in constant current mode or unpowered.
