Dear Europe: Germany has shown the way forward, by making the Open Document Format (ODF) mandatory within its sovereign digital infrastructure. Now it's time for other countries to do the same! https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/03/23/dear-europe/ #foss #opensource #freesoftware #openstandards
@itsfoss Because there's something off with having parts of my hardware completely unused because my OS has no idea that it's even a thing.
@itsfoss
Proper support for hardware features that have been there for years.
HDR and tpm2.0 to name 2 of them.
I'll clarify here because I know how people are on here and I already know I will get attacked for saying this. It's not a necessity at all, I am very much aware of this.
For me, it's more of a matter of having the *possibility* to have my OS work nice with everything my hardware is capable of, even if I don't want to enable it.
@Pandya @itsfoss Who cares, it's a good article. On top of that repairing a computer that still can be repaired in 2026 equals freedom.
@Torx @tuxedocomputers Right, but if the bubble bursts RAM may become cheaper than before.
In the meantime manufacturers are probably increasing their production capacity but these kinds of expansions take time.
@Torx @tuxedocomputers It's expensive because of current ram prices.
