You may know me from such defunct social websites as livejournal, assorted mid-2000s bulletin boards, and the Yahoo! Ann Landers discussion chatroom. Former librarian and museum educator, almost biologist, current web developer, future ???
@grahams I've been on kind of a general French kick for a while - I joined the French Library a year or two ago to get a discount on classes and I spent most of July in France (albeit working remotely at my anglophone job). I didn't think I was that much of a Francophile but French-language stuff is probably one of my top-five hobbies at the moment? (Also the French Library has a conversation group for members with snacks and wine for $5, best happy hour deal in Back Bay.)
Towards the end of the end of the series there is a lot of ominous talk about "le peloton," which I really should have figured out faster but I think I was distracted Peloton™️ and the competitive cycling usage. Even when I looked it up, the first dictionary definition was just "platoon" and eventually I figured out from context that it meant "firing squad" - "peloton d'execution." But I got there! I'm pretty sure I learned some useful vocab too.
Just finished watching "Les Combattantes/Women at War" on Netflix (recommend!), which I watch with the French captions because I'm trying to improve my French (and my listening comprehension is probably my weakest language skill). Anyway I have learned lots of vocabulary around sighing/groaning/moaning (a lot of the show is set in a military hospital).
@dx The garage door opener app blows, though - takes forever to load and always wants to be updated so by the time I get it open I could have entered the code on the outside keypad about eight times. Still like having it though because I'm paranoid about getting locked in my garage (which only has the car door, no people doors or windows).
@dx I have a connected keypad lock, garage door opener control, thermostat, and light bulbs/light switches. The lock and thermostat are the biggest pluses for me and I haven't had any problems with them. I love having the lights and thermostat on a routine so when I get up in winter it's warm and bright downstairs, and I like being able to turn off all (most) of the lights with one command when I leave the house/go to bed.
@jk Heh, this had me wondering, "What the heck is Google Buddy? They're never gonna support *that* long-term."
Please enjoy the deeply cursed bike rack at my hair stylist's. #biking #bikeracks #badbikeracks
@alexandrasweetie Thank you! It's time-consuming but honestly not super-difficult. And very satisfying - the seat could last 20 years!
@Robyn_Writing Thanks, super happy with how it came out!
@kimu It was a really satisfying project!
